Not a Fan of Pumpkin Beers, then Drink This – Sixpoint Pumpkin Brewster

October 8, 2010

I hate pumpkins

Do you find yourself feeling like a fool when you’re out with your friends and you’re the only one not drinking a pumpkin beer?  Well, it’s October and it’s all about pumpkin pie, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin gumbo, pumpkin grits and pumpkin beer.  For those of you that don’t like the traditional pumpkin pie mix flavored beer, the Sixpoint has got you covered.  Read on.

I decided to splurge, despite being quite hungover from the festivities of NY Craft Beer Week before, and attend a four course and four beer Sixpoint dinner.  After a good hour and a half of things like pancetta toast, kombucha squash, duck, and an insane amount of beer, the final course of figs and goat cheese fondue was paired with their signature pumpkin beer, Pumpkin Brewster (here’s a snippet from Serious Eats of Sixpoint folk cuttin’ up the pumpkins).  Yes, 80s kids, you know the reference.

The interesting about this beer is that it only mildly tastes like any pumpkin beer.  It’s dark amber color kind of scares the crap out of you and if you like ginger and some other pumpkin spices, then go for it.  So what’s the deal?

Where did I drink this beer? The Farm on Adderley

I would like this beer if:

  • I hate pumpkin beers but I want to feel like the rest of the craft beer world
  • Ginger and spice makes everything nice
  • I eat a lot of sweets that this beer would go great with

I would not like this beer if:

  • I hate Soleil Moon Frye
  • Ginger, ack!
